5.1 is currently the
standard in major motion pictures, music, and digital television.
The format consists of three speakers across the front and two
speakers in the rear. The .1 is a sixth channel called an LFE that
is sent to a subwoofer. True 5.1 surround sound technology uses a
subwoofer to produce exceptionally low frequency sound LFE, and a
further five satellite speakers to produce stunning sounds at the
front, sides and rear of the listener. The subwoofer can replicate
deep rumbles, explosions and dramatic low notes that are not
directional. The five surround speakers then produce the
directional mid and high tones to complete the effect and tonal
range. In order to produce this properly, the subwoofer and
satellite speakers must be placed in dynamic positions relative to
the acoustic nature of the room and the location of the listener
in order to fully address the proper reproduction of True 5.1
audio.

Unlike virtual surround sound
technologies like Dolby Headphone and SRS that deliver realistic,
